Update Report on Inoperability of Fire Barriers Gentlemen:
Reference 2 provided a special report pertaining to the inoperability of certain fire barriers at Fort Calhoun Station.
The subject fire barriers were discovered in piping trenches while investigating a piping leak, and were of an unrated design. When attempting to repair the pipe leak, it was determinea that the pipe was insulated with asbestos material. Due to the requi.ements associated with asbestos, additional time was necessary as noted 1
in Reference 3.
This supplemental report is provided to update the status of actions taken to restore the inoperable fire barriers, and to notify you that we believe that the barriers will be restored by June 1, 1987.
The work on the piping leak was finished just prior to our 1987 refueling and maintenance outage.
The outage has caused additional delays in procuring and scheduling contractors to perform the remaining restoration work on the fire barriers.
The fire watch will be maintained until the fire barriers are restored.
