Nerses to R. J. Harrison Subject : Request for Information Regarding CA Technologies 10CFR21 Report on Rockbestos cable Gentlemen In response to Reference (b), New Hampshire Yankee (NEY) condocted a review of engineeringand construction records, and performed a field verification. The reanit of this affort reveals that Rockbestos Cable was not used in conjunction with radiation monitors inside containnent.
ITI-Surprenant cable was used for the Saabrook installation.
NHT has also performed a review of the insulation resistance of the installed cable, connectors, and penetrations for thoes radiation monitors which are the subject of this concern. This revied has determined that the l
radiation monitors and their associated cables are acceptable for use and meet our commitment for accuracy as described in FSAR 5ectiou 7.5.4.1.

Centlemen:
i In a recent discussion with members of the ERC staff, New Hampshire Yankee was requested to clarify the response provided in taference (e).
In that response, it was noted that our review of engineering documents, construction doctaments and field verification revealed that Rockbestoe Cable l
described in the subject 10CFE21 report was not ased in conjunction with i
radiation munitors inside containment.
l To further clarify our response, MRT does not utilise the coaxial type Rockbestos Cable between any GA Radiation Monitoring Instrumentation (e.g.,
the EM-80 microprocessor and the ED-23 fon chamber detector) either inside or outside containment. Tbs Seabrook radiation sositoring design utilises ITT-l surprenant cable, which is folly gnalified for both normal and post accident service envirotunests. Furthermore, NET does not stiliza the Eockbestos cosa:1s1 cable identified in the CA 10CF121 report in any safety related radiation monitoring application at Seabrook Station.
