Professor Michael Corridini Nuclear Safety Research Center -

University of Wisconsin Madison, Wisconsin 53706

Dear Dr. Corridini:

~

We have been infonned by Senator Proxmire's office of the offer of a group from the University of Wisconsir. Nuclear Safety Research Center to

  • provide expert advice to the U.S. Government (USNRC) in aiding the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant disaster. As you may know, the Russian Government has refused an offer of assistance from the United States. However, the Environmental Protection Acency, which is the lead Federal agency on this matter, is keeping track of offers such as yours in the event there is a chance in position or other countries request assistance. Therefore, we have forwarded your reauest to EPA. Your offer is appreciated.

t Sincerely, LW~ rk Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation t cc: Senator William Proxmire Harry Calley, EPA To I h -8(e-SW
