UMS Universal Transport Cask Quarter-Scale Model Drop Testing Docket No. 71-9270, TAC No. L22452

Reference:

1.

Safety Analysis Report for the UMS Universal Transport Cask, Docket No. 71-9270, submitted April 30,1997, NAC International 2.

Revised Pages - UMS SAR and TSAR Supplemental Information, NAC International, April 23,1998 NAC International (NAC) has scheduled the 30-foot drop testing of the UMS Universal Transport Cask Quarter-Scale Model to begin the morning of April 13 and continue through April 14,1999, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The purpose of the drop tests is to confinn that the impact limiters remain attached to the cask and that the impact limiters limit the impact g-loads on the package to be less than, or equal to, the design impact g-loads used in the Safety Analysis Report for the UMS Universal Transport Cask.

1 U.S. NRC personnel are invited to attend some or all of the UMS drop tests. Please advise me no later than Monday, April 05,1999, of the names of any NRC staff who plan to attend. This will permit NAC to coordinate visitor arrangements with ORNL, since the drop test facility is in a restricted access area with very limited space for observers. -

Allinformation and activities associated with this testing program are considered to be proprietary 1

information to NAC International.

If you have any comments, questions, or require additional information, please contact me or Mr.

Steve Whitsett at (770) 447-1144.
