Docket No. 50-456

Docket No. 50-457

Commonwealth Edison Company

ATTN: Mr. Cordell Reed

Vice President

Post Office Box 767

.

Chicago, IL 60690

Gentlemen:

This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Messrs. M. Phillips

and T. Ploski of this office on September 24, 1985, of activities at the

Braidwood Nuclear Generating Station, Units 1 and 2, authorized by NRC

.

Construction Permit Nos. CPPR-132 and CPPR-133, and to the discussion of

!

our findings with Messrs. M. Wallace and J. Gudac and others of your staff

at the conclusion of the inspection.

4

i

The purpose of the inspection was to determine, from discussions with your

staff and our observations, your readiness for a preoperational emergency

!

preparedness appraisal. We believe that a two week period beginning in

late March or April,1986 would be appropriate for this appraisal, based

on the current-status of training for all persons assigned positions in the

,

i

onsite emergency. organization.

At the exit interview your staff indicated

!

that such emergency preparedness training could be expedited.

If this were

the case, the appraisal could be conducted during February or early March,

1986. Therefore, we expect that your staff will keep us informed on progress

made toward earlier completion of all onsite emergency organization training.

No items of noncompliance with NRC requirements were identified during the

course of this inspection.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of

this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC's

Public Document Room.

We will gladly discuss any questions you have concerning this inspection.

Sincerely,

.[.bK@
