s By letter dated September 9,1998 (2CANO99804),' Entergy Operations, Inc. requested approval under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.55a9a(a)(3)(i) to use American Society of Mechanical
- Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (Code),Section IX, Code Cases 2142-1
- and 2143-1 for the reactor coolant system for Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit-2.
' The staff has completed its review of the relief request and has determined that the proposed alternative to employ the alternative welding materials of Code Case 2142-1 and 2143-1 provides an acceptable level of quality and safety. Therefore, the staff concludes that the
. proposed alternative is authorized pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(a)(3)(i). The use of Code Cases
- 2142-1 and 2143-1 is authorized until such time as the Code Cases are approved by reference
. In Regulatory Guide (RG) 1.85. At that time, if Entergy Operations, Inc. Intends to continue to implement these Code Cases, Entergy Operation, Inc. is to follow all provisions in Code Cases
. 2142-1 and 2143-1 with limitations issued in RG 1.85, if any. Our Safety Evaluation is enclosed.
