MARCH 1985

SUMMARY

OF PLANT CONDITIONS The plant was'in operation at approximately 94% power from March 1 to March 10. During the second shift on March 11, power was reduced to repair a condenser tube leak. At 0900 hours0.0104 days <br />0.25 hours <br />0.00149 weeks <br />3.4245e-4 months <br /> on March 12, power was leveled off at 60% while the-leak was repaired. By 2100 hours0.0243 days <br />0.583 hours <br />0.00347 weeks <br />7.9905e-4 months <br /> on March 12, reactor power was at 84%.

Power was leveled off at 91% until March 15, when shutdown for the Cycle 7 refueling commenced. The reactor was in cold shutdown by March 17.

PERSONNEL CHANGES REQUIRING REPORT Dan Comstock, Nuclear Operations Superintendent, resigned effective 3/1/85.

~B. E. (Bill) Spencer was named as Nuclear Operations Superintendent on 4/1/85.

Bill joined Nuclear Operations in November, 1969 as a Control Room Shift

' Supervisor. He came to SMUD from Douglas United Nuclear, Inc. where his primary responsibilities involved reactor operation and outage work. His previous experience included 19 years with General Electric where he attained the position of Reactor Specialist.

Bill qualified for his Senior Control Room Operator's License in 1974 and is maintaining the license at the present time. Altogether, Bill has more than 30 years nuclear related experience and meets the requirements of ANSI N45.2 for this position.

SUMMARY

OF CHANGES IN ACCORDANCE WITH 10 CFR 50.59(b)

None-MAJOR ITEMS OF SAFETY-RELATED MAINTENANCE

1) Lower flange. cap screws on "A" diesel generator bypass lube oil pump were tightened to stop leakage.
2) Reactor Building Spray Additive Tank check valve CBS-021 was found to -

be leaking. Valve was disassembled, seat and plug were lapped, and valve was reassembled and tested to verify that leakage was stopped.

3) Boric acid crystals were found on Boric Acid Recirculation Pump A and B Discharge Relief Valve PSV-70505. Valve was disassembled, disc and seat were lapp'ed, slightly bent stem was straightened, and valve was reassembled and tested.
