r In accordance with the amendment application dated August 31, 1988, and ,

pursuant to Title 10. Code of Federal Regulations, Part 70, Special Nuclear Material License No. SNM-1050 is hereby eaended to extend the expiration date of the license. Accordingly, Condition 4 is revised as follews.

4. Expiration Date: March 31, 1989 All other conditions of this license shall remain the same.

This action is in response to the Department of Nuclear Engineering Sciences request for an extension of Special Nuclear Material License No. SNM-1050.

In accordant.? with Title 10, code of Federal Regulations, Section 70.33(b) of *

< Part 70 (copy cnclosed), licensees are required to submit a renewal application not less than 30 days prior to the expiration date of the license. In some >

' instances, based on the licensee's justification, an extension can be granted l providing additional tiu to submit a renewal application. However, the University of Florida has repeatedly requested an extension of the license -

expiration date. Because the license has been extended six times in the past 5 years, we bring this situation to your attention. i On August 31, 1988, the Ur.iversity of Florida requested a 4-e nth extension of I the license instead of submitting the renewal application. As discussed above,  ;

the University of Florida has not satisfied the license renewal requirements.  ;

i Nevertheless, the staff has extended the expiration date of your license for 6 [

months so that the University of Florida has sufficient time to subnit the  ;

renewal application. No further extension of the license expiration date  !
