Request for Additional Information We have reviewed FSAR Section 6.2, applicant's letter dated Janaury 24, 1984, and Specification No. 8848 regarding containment protective coatings.
This review was conducted in response to Diablo Canyon Allegation No. 100, Diablo Canyon Painters Have No Quality Control Program.
We need additional information to complete our review.
The applicant should respond by April 15, 1984, in order to maintain the current review schedule.

r-Additional Information Needed for Pacific Gas & Electric Company for Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 & 2 281-1 Your letter dated January 24, 1984, enclosed information certifying that Carbo Zinc 11, Phenoline 305, Carboline 191 HB, and Phenoline 302 have been tested in accordance with and meet the requirements of ANSI N 101.2-1972.
Have the other containment paints listed in Table 6.2-28 of update FSAR, Draft 4, been tested in accordance with and meets the requirements of ANSI N 101.27 These are:
High Heat Aluminum TT-P-280, Dimetcote 6, Deoxaluminite, Mobile Zinc #7, Mobile 13R-711, Chem Fast, Amercoat-66 and Carboline 4674.
281-2 Do any of the paints listed in Table 6.2-28 of the FSAR update, Draft 4, meet the requirements of Regulatory Guide 1,54 or ANSI N 101.4-1972 on Quality Assurance Requirements for Protective Coatings Applied to Water-Cooled Nuclear Power Plants?
281-3 During what time period were each of the paints listed in Table 6.2-28 update, Draf t 4 applied to the containment surfaces?
281-4 We have estimated that the amount of debris which can be generated from unqualified paint inside containment may total 6400 pounds with a volume of 34 cubic feet.
Provide assurances that up to 34 cubic feet of debris will not impair the function of safety related equipment.
