f
-!
Dear Mr. Barron:
On December 6, 1997, the NRC completed an inspection at your McGuire Nuclear-
Station.
The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
This inspection was conducted to review the adequacy of an investigation of a
December 2. 1997 event involving seal damage to four air lock doors at the
Unit 2 Containment Building.
At the time of the inspection, the investigation
concluded that the seals were intentionally cut by an unidentitied
individual (s).
Other equipment was inspected by the NRC and site personnel
,
!
for evidence of tampering and none was found.
The NRC concluded that the
ongoing investigation and the response to the tampering event was adequate.
Based on the information developed during the inspection, the NRC has
determined that a violation of NRC requirements occurred.
The violation is
cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice), and the circumstances
surrounding it are described in detail in the subject inspection report.
ln accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice " a copy of
this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Documert Room.
Sincerely,
