CRYSTAL RIVER NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT UNIT 3 - EMERGENCY DIESEL GENERATOR TEST PLAN

Dear Mr. Anderson:

By letter dated September 25,1997, Florida Power Corporation (FPC) provided to the

' U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff a copy of the emergency diesel generator (EDG) test plan, in the submittal, FPC stated that the purpose of the EDG test plan is to confirm EDG functionality, engine qualification, and adequate EDG room cooling following modifications to increase the 200 hour0.00231 days <br />0.0556 hours <br />3.306878e-4 weeks <br />7.61e-5 months <br /> and 2000 hour0.0231 days <br />0.556 hours <br />0.00331 weeks <br />7.61e-4 months <br /> ratings for the EDGs. On October 28, 1997, the NRC staff met with FPC to discuss the EDG test plan. During that meetng, FPC stated that it intended to complete 22 (total for both the A and B EDGs) start and load run tests witn the modified EDGs. By letter dated November 5,1997, FPC committed to completing 22 successful start and load run tests; and in the attachment to the letter, FPC describe l how it defined a successful start and load run test. On the basis of the above information th3 staff has concluded that the EDG test plan is adequate.
