Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP) Report No.
50-317/84-99; 50-318/84-99
The NRC Region I SALP Board has reviewed and evaluated the performance of activi-
ties at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant for the period of October 1, 1985
through April 30, 1986.
The results of this assessment are documented in the en-
closed SALP Board report.
A meeting to discuss the assessment has been scheduled
for July 18, 1986 at the Calvert Cliffs Visitor's Center, Lusby, Maryland.
At the SALP meeting, you should be prepared to discuss this assessment and your
plans to improve those areas that appear to need more management attention.
In
particular, you should plan on discussing the following topics: (1) the NRC per-
ception that licensee identification of potential safety issues lacks sufficient
aggressiveness without active NRC involvement, (2) the need to place more emphasis
on identification of problem root cause(s), (3) reactor trip reduction efforts,
(4) plans to strengthen plant I&C and engineering support, and (5) POSRC effec-
tiveness.
The meeting is intended to be a candid dialogue wherein any comments
you may have regarding our report may be discussed.
Additionally, you may provide
written comments within 20 days after the meeting.
