Dear Mr. Denton:
This letter is being written to provide additional clarification relative to the Appendix R Safety Evaluation Report (SER) which was issued to South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G) on May 22,1986. This clarification has been discussed with Mr. Jon Hopkins of your staff and is as follows:
1.
Paragraph II (i)-(typographical error) " fire area CB-1" is actually " fire area CB-12."
2.
Paragraph ll(m), page 11 -(typographical error) " letter dated April 4,1986" is actually " letter dated April 1,1986."
3.
Paragraph II (m), page 9 -(clarification) -The second sentence in the first paragraph of this section of the letter implies that all the equipment listed ic subject to spurious operation due to fire induced hot shorts. Actually, spurious operation only applies to some of the equipment listed. The oric inal list that was submitted was a listing of "B" Train equipment required for safe slutdown. The following is the same list of "B" Train equipment required for safe shutdown with a clarification column added identifying the equipment subject to detrimental spurious operation due to fire induced hot shorts. Two ty!aographical errors have been corrected and the "A" Train com aonents which neecl to be operated for shutdown with "B" Train equipment have a so been identified on the list.
