-Dear Mr. Peterson:
J0n 0ctober 11. 1997, the NRC completed an inspection at your Catawba Nuclear
-Station. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
During thelsix-week period covered by this inspection, your conduct of .
i
activities at the Catawba Nuclear Station was generally characterized by
- safety-conscious operations, as well as adequate engineering, maintenance, and
radiological controls.
However, three violations of NRC requirements were
identified and are cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice).
Described in detail in the enclosed report, the violations concern repetitive
-problems with the control of protected area access badges. The repetitive
nature of two of the violations has raised concern over the completeness and
effectiveness of-the corrective actions you've taken to prevent recurrence.
You are required to respond to this letter and should follow the instructions
specified in the enclosed Notice when preparing your response.

necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
