REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS CHANGE REQUEST TO CONVERT T0 THE IMPROVED TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CALVERT CLIFFS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNIT NOS.

1 AND 2 (TAC NO. H97363 AND M97364)

Dear Mr. Cruse:

On October 24, 1997, the NRC issued a license amendment for the H B. Robinson 2 conversion to the improved Standard Technical Specifications (STS). The Robinson conversion st'nds unique as the model for a new safety evaluation

-(SE) format. This format should result in staff resource savings, more timely reu1ews, and provide a clearer and more succinct product.

Key to the revised SE are tables that the licensee prepared that contain summary descriptions and categories of the changes to the technical specifications as a result of the conversion. We are therefore, requesting Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) to pre)are similar tables for the Calvert Cliffs conversion as our staff writes tie SE. To assist in these efforts, on October 28 the staff sent BGE electronic 6nd hard copies of the Robinson SE with tables. If you have any questions on the use of the SE or tables. ) lease contact me on (301) 415-3473 or Mary Lynn Reardon (301) 415-1177. T1ank you for your cooperation in these efforts.

Sincerely.
