Detroit Fdison's 30 Day Resoonse to NRC Generic 1,etter 47-04 NRC Generic 1. ester 97-04 (Reference 2) requested that licensees submit information necessary to confirm the adequacy of the Net Positive Suction llead (NPSil) available for emergency core cooling (including core spray and decay heat removal) and containment heat removal pumps. The generic letter required a written response within 30 days from the date of this generic letter, indicating (a) whether or not the requested information will be submitted, and (b) whether or not the requested information will be submitted within the requested time period.
Detroit Edison is participating in a newly-established lloiling Water Reactor Owners' Group (BWROG) NPSil Committee which has the obyctives to review current BWR industry NPSil calculation methodology, and recommetri a consistent approach for adequately addressing NPSil issues ir. the 90-day response to the generic letter. The IlWROG established dialog with the NRC prior to the issuance of the generic letter and plans to continue that interaction so that NPSil issues are i
properly addressed.
