The NRC staff has reviewed Union Electric Company's April 12,1996 application, ar'd i

supplements, lo chan9e the Technical Spec 6fications and Bases to allow the installation of Frematome Ebetros!eeves in the Callaway Plant, Unit 1 steam 9enerators. By letter dated December 18,1997, the starf requested additicalinformation to complete the review. Since then, question number 11 to that request has been revised. The updated Information is detailed In the enclosure.

As indicated in our December 18,1997 letter, to assist the NRC staff in meeting its rulew schedule, we request that pu respond to the RAI in writing as soon as possible, with priority placed on Qusstions 1 through 6.

1 REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REVIEW OF LitENSE AMENDMENT REGARDING SLEEVING OF STEAM GENERATOR TUBES AT CALt.AWAY

11. It is not clear whether the licensee intends to repair tubes containing lGA or in locations susceptible to subsequent IGA. Please clarify. If Electrosleeves will be applied to such tube ic:ations, provide a summary of the inspection qualification data that supports this application. In addition, the revised topical report (discussed in Question 87) should state whether Electrosleeving will be applied to 80 tubes with lGA or in locations susceptible to subsequent IGA. If Electrosleeving is to be applied to such tube locations, the summary of the inspection qualification data requested above should also be included in the revised topical report.
