Gentlemen:
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Messrs. J. E. Hard
and M. M. Moser of this office on August 11 through October 12, 1985, of
activities at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Flant, Units 1 and 2,
authorized by NRC Operating Licenses No. DPR-42 and No. DPR-60 and to the
discussion of our findings with Mr. Watzl and other members of your staff at
the conclusion of tha inspection.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during
the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective
examination of procedJres and representative records, observations, and
interviews with personnel.
No items of violation with NRC requirements were identified during the course
of this inspection.
We are continuing our review of the items of safety concern which were
highlighted in the previous inspection report (50-282/85014(DRP);
50-306/85011(DRP)). We note in the current report that another event related
to facility modifications has occurred since you responded to the previous
report. Please provide in writing within 30 days of the date of the current
report the actions which you plan to take in view of the recent event.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a), of the Commission's regulations a copy of
this letter and the enclosure (s) will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
