DETAILED CONTROL ROOM DESIGN REVIEW Re:

Cooper Nuclear Station The staff and its consultants, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, plan to conduct a preimplementation audit of NPPD's detailed control room design (DCRDR) of Cooper-Nuclear Station. The purpose of the audit will be to

, evaluate the organization, process, and results of the DCRDR. The audit has been discussed with Greg Smith of your staff, and is planned for May 13-16,

.1986 at Cooper. We request the following preparations:

1.

Review team personnel (including contractors) knowledgeable in each of the DCRDR tasks should be available to discuss the review process and to respond to staff questions during the audit.

2.-

Documentation of the DCRDR organization, process, and results to date should be available.

3.

Conference or office space should be available for the NRC staff's meeting with NPPD and for the staff and its consultants to meet privately.

4.

Access to the control room and remote shutdown facilities should be provided as necessary.

5.

Clearance to bring camera equipment on site and to take photographs in the control room and other areas that would assist in evaluating the DCRDR should be provided.

A tentative audit agenda is provided for planning purposes.
