I am writing in reference to a telephone conversation that took place on October 21,1997, between you and Patricia Vacherlon, a staff member of the Medical, Academic, and Commercial Use Safety Branch, Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards, it is my understanding that during this phone conversation, the selection procedures for choosing new members for advisory committees associated with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission were explained to you. Ms. Vacherlon asked if you would be interested in serving on the screening panel for reviewing and rating the nomir'ations received for an individual with State or local govemment perspectives and you stated your interest in serving on the panel. On behalf of the Commission, I am inviting you to serve on this screening panel. I would like the panel to convene within six weeks of the receipt of this letter.
