Docket No. 50-266

Docket No. 50-301

Wisconsin Electric Power Company

ATTN: Mr. C. W. Fay

Vice President

Nuclear Power Department

231 West Michigan, Room 308

Milwaukee, WI 53201

Gentlemen:.

Enclosed is an addendum to Inspection Report No. 50-266/86009(DRSS) and

No. 50-301/86008(DRSS) transmitted by our letter dated July 11, 1986. The

addendum consists of comparisons of results of a liquid sample collected

during the inspection and criteria for comparing analvtical measurements.

Initially both the gross beta and strontium-89 results yielded nonconservative

disagreements (L WASTE).

Possible reasons for the disagreements were discussed

with your representative who contacted your environmental contractor.

The

contractor acidified, agitated, and analyzed a remaining portion of this

sample which resulted in an agreement for strontium-89 (2 COUNT). The gross

beta result would most likely have produced an agreement. if decay correction

could have been taken into account.

We understand that you have taken measures to assure that liquid samples are

acidified and agitated prior to analyses by the . contractor. We will examine

this during a future inspection. We consider open item No. 50-266/86009-01

and No. 50-301/86008-01 closed.

Please attach this addendum to your copy of our inspection report.

We will be glad to discuss any questions you have regarding this addendum.

Sincerely,

Original ciW 'J.D. Shafer"
