- GEORGIA 10WER CDMPANY FACILITY NAME: EDWIN I. HA'IGI DOCKET NGEER: 50-366 On March 24,
- 1986, at approximately 0030 GT with Unit 2 in steady-state operation at approximately 2065 MWt (approximately 85% of rated.. thermal power), a contimous alarm was received on fire protection panel 2Z43-P006.
%is alarm was received when a fire detector (2T43-m24G) located in the Reactor R1ilding Steam Chase area failed.
We failure of this detector rea11ted in 29 detectors being inoperable (listed in Technical Specifications Table 3.3.6.8-1 under Reactor R111 ding, Elevation 130 foot in South Cable Tray Area and South CRD Area).
'Itus, the plant could not meet the minim 1m rumber of operable detectors recuired by the table.
We plant initiated a fire watch patrol within 1 bcur as recuired by Technical Specifications Section 3.3.6.8, ACTION a.
%is fire watch patrol will remain in effect until recuired repairs are made, and the fire detectors are restored to operable status.
We actual ca2se of the detector failure cannot be determined at this time. However, the instrument failure was most likely d2e to moisture
.(from small steam leaks in the steam chase ares).
Plans are to replace detector 2T43-N024G during the next extended 02tage on Unit 2 when the steam chase area is accessible.
