Dear Mr. Bliss:

By letters dated January 22, 1988, June 1, 1988, and June 13, 1988, Commonwealth Edison Company (Ceco) submittad to the NRC staff information pertaining to their IGSCC Inservice Inspection program conducted at Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station (QCNPS), Unit 2, in accordance with the guidelines of Generic Letter 84-11. More specifically, this information provided descriptions of the initial and expanded weld sample examinations, pipe weld flaws, analytical evaluation results, and repair actions performed during the Reload 9/ Cycle 10 Refueling Outage.

NRC staff has completed a preliminary review of the information submitted by CECO and concluded that the condition of respective pipe welds at QCNPS, Unit 2 should not preclude restart. A final Safety Evaluation by NRC staff addressing specific acceptability of pipe repairs will be issued at a later date.
