Dear Sir A review o' the NRC safety evaluation in Reference (b) disclosed one inconsistency. Although Reference (c) and the safety evaluation of Reference (b) refer to each of the subject valves as gate valves, globe valses are being used.
The globe design has been selected for use in this application due to its excellent seating ability and history of low maintenance and reliable operation as an isolation valve. This design valve is used extensively within many systems at the Yankee plant as a system isolation valve, including other containment isolation applications.
This clarification does not affect Amendment No. 117. This letter is being issued for your information only.
