l DOCKET: 50 - 414 UNIT: Catawba 2 Date: 11/13/98 NARRATIVE
SUMMARY
MONTil: October,1998 Catawba Unit 2 began the month of October in end-of-cycle 09 refueling outage. The refueling outage spanned 48.96 days and was scheduled for 42 days. The refueling outage was delayed for the following reasons; 4 days due to main turbine generator maintenance,2 days due to zero power physics testing problems,0.96 days due to control rod drive problems. The unit was placed on-line 10/24/98 at 0136.
During power escalation, the unit held at 14% power from 0237 to 0516 for main turbine soak for overspeed trip test. The unit was taken off-line on 10/24/98 at 0546 to perform the main turbine overspeed trip test. The unit returned to service on 10/24/98 at 0957.The unit held at 18% power from 1305 to 1453 pending heat up of main feedwater nozzles. The unit resumed power escalation, and held at 30% power from 10/24/98 at 1951 to 10/25/98 at 0130 and at 75% power from 10/25/98 at 2330 to 10/26/98 at 0245 due to power ascension testing. The unit returned to 100% full power on 10/29/98 at 2039 and operated at or near 100% full power the remainder of the month.
