Dear Sir or Madam:
The GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy L.L.C. (GEH) Vallecitos Nuclear Center in Sunol, CA hereby requests a minor clarification to the current SNM-1270 license (Reference 1 ). The proposed change clarifies the authorized place of use described in license condition 10 as discussed in a telecom with NRC staff on June 30, 2020 (Reference 3). GEH requests an expedited NRC review and approval of the request by August 31, 2020 to allow a transport using the SNM-1270 license scheduled in September 2020. provides a proposed clarification to the SNM-1270 license condition 10.
The SNM-1270 license applies to special nuclear material used only in research and development activities, as defined in 10 CFR 70.4. Therefore, the categorical exclusion of 10 CFR 51.22(c)(14)(v) applies and neither an environmental assessment nor an environmental impact statement is required.
