ACCEPTANCE FOR REVIEW OF UPDATED DECOMMISSIONING FUNDING PLAN FOR THE VALLECITOS NUCLEAR CENTERENTERPRISE PROJECT IDENTIFICATION NUMBER L-2020-DFA-0002

Dear Mr. Murray:

By letter dated March 6, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System

[ADAMS] No. ML20066J977), General Electric-Hitachi provided an updated decommissioning funding plan (DFP) for the Vallecitos Nuclear Center (VNC).

By letter dated May 8, 2020 (ADAMS Accession No. ML20119A8720), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff informed you that it had performed an acceptance review of your application to determine if it contained sufficient technical information to allow the NRC staff to conduct the technical review. However, based on the acceptance review of your submittal, the NRC staff determined that additional technical information was needed to proceed with a detailed technical review. Enclosed with its letter, the NRC staff provided a request for supplemental information (RSI) describing the specific information that was needed to proceed with the detailed technical review. By letter dated June 2, 2020, you provided the responses to the NRC staffs RSI (ADAMS Accession No. ML20154K650).

The NRC staff has completed its review of your responses to the RSI, and determined that you have provided sufficient information to proceed with the full review of the VNCs DFP and associated supplemental information. Please note that the NRC staffs technical review of your submittal may identify issues that require additional information. Based on our evaluation of the information provided, and projection of current review schedules, we anticipate completing our formal review of the updated VNCs DFP by September 2020. This date could change depending on the findings of our technical review, urgent assignments, or other factors. We will promptly communicate any significant changes to this schedule. In addition, the NRC staff estimates that completing the review of your submittal will require approximately 60 staff hours which corresponds to about $16,680.00 ($278.00/hr).

Your submittal has previously been assigned Enterprise Project Identifier (EPID) Number L-2020-DFA-0002. Please ensure you reference this EPID number and Docket Number 07000754 in any future correspondence associated with this request.
