Dear Mr. Militscher:

This letter is to confirm the June 29, 1988, telephore discussion between your-self and Dr. J. Piccone of this office. During this discussion you agreed to assist NRC Region I in an inspection team that will perform an operational safety assessment at the E. R. Squibb and Sons, Inc., New Brunswick, New Jersey site during the week of August 8-12, 1988. This will be a broad safety assessment of fire, chemical and industrial safety, as well as radiation safety.

The inspection team will be composed of five or six members from the Nuclear Regula-tory Commission and representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and The Food and Drug Administration, as well as EPA.

We believe that mutual benefits will accrue as a result of such a multi-agency safety review at the E. R. Squibb facility. We plan to issue a formal report citing both regulatory violations and recommendations for improved safety for the consideration of facility management.

Please identify the individual (s) who will assist in the operational safety assessment to Dr. Piccone (215-337-5169, FTS 346-5169) by July 15, 1983.
