(SPDS) j Gentlemen:

Supplement I to NUREG-0737 (Generic Letter 82-33) requires each licensee to submit for NRC review a safety analysis and an implementation plan for the installation and l

operation of the Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS). Reference (a) satisfied this requirement. We provided you with additional information in Reference (b) and j

committed to incorporate that information into the SPDS Report. The Enclosure satisfies this commitment, reflects design improvements made during implementation, updates operational status and supplies additional test information on isolation modules. The SPDS has met the July i,1988 operational deadline date established for both Units 1 and 2.

The Safety Evaluation contained in your hiarch 24, 1986 letter used information from References (a) and (b) to confirm that SPDS displayed data is adequate, valid and readily perceived and comprehended, in addition, the SPCS was found to be suitably l

isolated from safety-related systems. The basis for this determination was that the power input to the Data Acquisition System (DAS) remote input / Output (I/0) cabinets is I

Class IE, You further state that a confirmatory review of the isolation modules would be required if the power input is non-Class IE. Since we are using a non-Class IE power supply, we hase included additional test information to confirm that the modules can withstand the mar.imum credible fault without degrading the Class IE side. This additional information should be sufficient for you to confirm that the isolation moduln are suitably qualified as isolators.
