" ASSURANCE OF SUFFICIENT NET POSITIVE SUCTION HEAD FOR EMERGENCY CORE COOLING AND CONTAINMENT HEAT REMOVAL PUMPS," DATED OCTOBER 7,1997; SOUTH TEXAS PROJECT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (STP) (TAC NOS. MA0045 AND MA0046)
Dear Mr. Cottle:
On October 7,1997, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Generic Letter l
(GL) 97-04, " Assurance of Sufficient Net Positive Suction Head for Emergency Core Cooling and Containment Heat Removal Pumps," to all holders of operating licenses or construction permits. The NRC issued GL 97-04 to confirm the adequacy of the net positive suction head available for emergency core cooling (including core spray and decay heat removal) and containment heat removal pumps under all design-basis accident scenarios.
In response to GL 97-04, you provided letters dated November 6 and December 30,1997, for STP. In response to a request for additionalinformation dated June 2,1998, you submitted l
letters on August 3 and September 30,1998. These submittals provided the information requested by GL 97-04. The staff has reviewed your response and has concluded that all requested information has been provided; therefore, we consider GL 97-04 closed for your facilities.
