Dear Mr. Dugger:
On October 7,1997, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Generic Letter (GL) 97-04, " Assurance of Net Positive Suction Head for Emergency Core Cooling and l
Containment Heat Removal Pumps," to all holders of operating licenses or construction permits.
l The NRC issued GL 97-04 to confirm the adequacy of the net positive suction head available l
for emergency core cooling (including core spray and decay heat removal) and containment heat removal pumps under all design-basis accident scenarios.
In response to GL 97-04, you provided letters dated November 5,1997, and January 5,1998, for Waterford Stem Electric Station, Unit 3. In response to a request for additionalinformation dated May 29,1998, you submitted additionalletters dated June 29 and October 1,1998.
These submittals provided the information requested by GL 97-04. The staff has reviewed your response and has concluded that all requested information has been provided; therefore we conside r CL 97-04 closed for your facility.
