Dear Mrs. Flink:
This refers to the special safety inspection conducted by Ms. C. C. Casey of this office on March 3-5, 1986, of activities authorized by NRC Special Nuclear Material License No.1804, and to the telephone conversation of our findings with you and James Roberts at the conclusion of the inspection on March 5, 1986.
The special inspection was conducted in response to your letter dated February 1986, notifying us of the loss of licensed material. The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and interviews with personnel.
During this inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in violation of NRC requirements, as described in the enclosed Notice of Violation. With respect to Item No. 1, the inspection showed that action had been taken to correct the identified violation and to prevent recurrence. Consequently, no reply to the violation is required, and we have no further questions regarding this matter at this time.
Areas examined during the inspection concern a subject matter which is exempt from disclosure according to Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice",
Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations. Consequently, our report of this inspection will not be placed in the Public Document Room.
