NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-424/98-07 AND
50-425/98-07 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION
Dear Mr. Beasley:
This refers to the inspection conducted August 16,1998, through September 26,1998, at the

-Vogtle Units 1 and 2 reactor facilities. The enclosed report presents the results of that
,
inspection.
= During the inspection period, your conduct of activities at the Vogtle facility was generally
characterized by safety-conscious operations, sound engineering and maintenance practices,
and appropriate radiological work controls.
Based on the results of this inspection, the NRC has determined that a violation of NRC
requirements occurred. The violation is cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice) and

' the circumstances surrounding it are described in detail in the subject inspection report. The
'
- violation is of concern because it was identified by the NRC.
The NRC has. concluded that information regarding the reason for the violation, the corrective
actions taken and planned to correct the violation and prevent recurrence is already adequately
addressed in this inspection report. Therefore, you are not required to respond to this letter

unless the description therein does not accurately reflect your corrective actions or your
position. In that case, or if you choose to provide c.dditional information, you should follow the
instructions specified in the enclosed Notice.
During the inspection period, the NRC received a response dated August 16,1998 to Notice of
Violation 50-424,425/98-05-01. We have evaluated your response and found that it meets the
requirements of 10 CFR 2.201. We will examine the implementation of your corrective actions
during future inspections.
