h APPENDIX B NOTICE OF DEVIATION Northeast Nuclear Energy Company Docket No. 50-336 Millstone Unit 2 License No. DPR-65
-During routine safety inspection from March 22 to May 2,-1988, the following de-viation was identiffed, Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) 7.5.6.1.3 states that area radiation monitor calibration will be accomplished by placing the detector in a "repro-ducible, fixed geometry configuration," and exposing the detector to a "cali-brated radioactive source" placed at measured distances from the detector.
Contrary to the above, calibration procedure SP-2404BA "Control Room Ventila-tion Monitor Calibration," used for calibrations in December 1986, did not assure a reproducible, fixed geometry configuration or ensure that (1) dose rates generated by test sources were measured at a specific dista.1ce from the sources, and (ii) test sources were held at the same distance from the detec-tor during the calibration.
Northeast Nuclear Energy Company is hereby requested to submit to this office, within thirty days of the date of the letter which transmitted this Deviation, a written reply including: (1) the corrective steps to be taken'and results achieved, (2) corrective steps to be taken to avoid further deviations; and (3) the date when FSAR compliance will be achieved. Where good cause is shown, consideration-will be given to extending this response time.
