l DESCRIPTION:

This teletherapy sourceireplaces Models TS101'A and TS101 B. This source. assembly may'be used in any model teletherapy unit. The maximum curies content of each source is-determined by the
^
teletherapy device it is intended,for.
The teletherapyLsource consists of nickel plated metallic cobalt mini-pellets or. wafers contained in a double encaps'u lated stainless steel 304 orl316 enclosure. -
.The inner capsule is'a variable' dimension circular cylinder with a maximum outside diameter of.1.115" (2.83 cm) by 1.325" l (3.37 cm) in height. The inner diameter of the capsule is 1.000" !
J(2~54 cm) maximum. The minimum wall thickness is 0.031"
. l (0.79 mm). The top of the inner capsule is 0.125" (3.18 mm) l thickLand is a light press fit in the capsule. The top is sealed l by "TIG". welding. A shield' liner made of Tungsten may be placed inside the' inner capsule. The shield liner outside diameter is 0.990" (2.51 cm) and has a height of 1.146" (2.91 cm). The inside diameter of_the shield liner is either 0.689, 0.788, 0.590, or 0.394" (17.5, 20.02, 14.99, or 10. 0 rmn) .
The outer capsule is also a variable dimension right circular cylinder with a maximum diameter of 1.1250" (2.86 cm) and a height of 1.504" (3.82 cm) . The cover on the outer capsule is also 0.125" (3.18 mm) in thickness and is sealed in a similar 1 manner as the inner capsule.
.The double encapsulated assembly may be secured and supplied in an International Standard Teletherapy Source Holder. (This shell isLdiscussed in NBS Handbook #73.) Or, it may be. supplied without the holder to fit teletherapy machines not requiring such a holder.
-The only difference between the Models TS101 A, TS101 B and the TS101 is that both the inner and outer capsule on the TS101A and l TS101B have a slight recess cut in the inner diameter of the
. capsule which is 0.125" (3.18 mm) deep in which the cover is seated. This recess is eliminated in the TS101.

PROTOTYPE TESTING:
This teletherapy source is based upon approved design that has been tested to demonstrate that the source may be classified under the ANSI Standard NS.10-1968 classification as E42424.
QUALITY ASSURANCE AND CONTROL:
After fabrication, inner and outer capsules are visually inspected using magnification. The capsules are then subjected to a LN2 (liquid nitrogen) bubble test.
The inner and outer capsules are separately cleaned (decontaminated) in a standard completing solution. The inner and outer capsules are separately wipe-leak tested after welding to' assure that the inner capsule has less than 0.5 microcuries (18.5 kBq) removable contamination and 'the outer capsule has less than 0.005 microcuries (185 Bq) removable contamination.
