MAY 2 51988 MEMORANDUM FOR:

R. F. Fraley Executive Director, ACRS FROM:

Victor Stello, Jr.

Executive Director for Operations

SUBJECT:

REVIEW SCHEDULES RE:

PILGRIM AND PEACH BOTTOM In your memorandum of May 11, 1988, you indicated that the ACRS had decided to review the. proposed restart of the Pilgrim Station and the Peach Bottom Plant.

To facilitate these reviews, we recommend they begin upon staff agreement that a viable utility restart plan has been established.

This will permit staff discussions of its positions dealing with the corrective actions that need to be taken by the utility.

With respect to the Pilgrim Station, the staff has found the utility's restart plan to be acceptable, subject to a number of confirmatory inspections. A status briefing for the Comission is scheduled for June 9,1988.

The staff's Integrated Assessment Team Inspection report is expected by early July. A Comission restart decision is expected in early August. Accordingly, I recomend the ACRS consider a subcomittee site visit and meeting in early July followed by its full comittee meeting in mid-July.

With respect to Peach Bottom, the licensee is working toward a restart date for Unit 2 in the Fall of 1988, and for Unit 3 in early 1989. The staff expects to finalize its position on the restart plan in time for an August or September review by the ACRS. Mr. A. Cappucci of the NRC staff will contact the i

ACRS projects staff to develop a detailed schedule of activities when the staff's reviews approach completion.
