REDUCED SCOPE OF INTERGRANULAR STRESS CORROSION CRACKING (IGSCC) INSPECTION FOR OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION DURING REFUELING OUTAGE 17 (TAC NO. MA2417) -

Dear Mr. Roche:
n By letter dated July 29,1998, as supplemented by letter dated September 21,1998, GPU Nuclear, Inc., (the licensee) submitted a request for approval by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to perform a reduced scope IGSCC inspection during refueling outage 17 (17R) at Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station (OCNGS).
The NRC staff has completed its review of the licensee's request to defer inspection of 79 welds for one fuel cycle after 17R and found !! acceptable with the exception that four additional welds should be inspected as discussed in the enclosed Safety Evaluation Report.
