3.0 DEFINITIONS 3.1 Accountability Scale - Any measurino instrurent that is used to cetermine the weignt of special nuclear material for determining the SNM content on inventory, receipt or shipment.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES 4.1 Control and Instrumentatien Succort (C&!S) 4.1.1 Maintain all records concerning scale, balance and weight calibration for a period of five years.

4.1.2 Affix control numbers to all scales, balances and weights and maintain them in the computerized inventory and calibra-tion recall system.

4.2 The user unit has the responsibility to:

4.2.1 Perform calibration checks per applicable process require-ments and operator document or other designated station procedures.

4.2.2 Report scales, balances or weights having out-of-date cali-bration stickers to CLIS.

4.2.3 Notify C&!S of any cut-of-calibratica conditten, or scale malfunction.

4.2.4 Insure that all calibration check weights are kept. lean anc free from fcreten matter.

4.2.5 Report scale relecations to C&IS.

4.3 Licensing and Nuclear Materials Management (N"?-1) has the responsi-bility to:

11 8.0 CALIBRATI0ff 8.1 All in-use scales and balances will be calibrated with standard weights traceable to the fiational Bureau of Standards at intervals not to exceed the following:

8.2 Prier to utilizing certified weights for calibrations or calibra-ting checks, these weights will be put into service by inserting the data on the weight into a computer system.

After completion of the adjustment or repair, repeat 8.3.3 - 8.3.7.

8.4 Hanging load cell scales shall be calibrated as follows:

8.4.1 All weights used for calibration shall have a valid certifi-cation and shall be Class F or better.

8.4.2 All data shall be recorded on the form shewn in Figure 1.

8.4.3 Fill out the scale identification and status information.

8.4.4 As applicable, use the selector switch on the switching module to select the load cell to be calibrated.

8.5.1 The artifact mass standard as defined in AN5! fl.15.18 shall be used for calibration of the OF cylinder dock scale.

8.6 Chemet Lab mechanical and electronic balarces shall be calibrated as follcws:

8.6.1 All weights used for c lfbration shall have a valid certifi-cation and shall be 5-1 or tetter.

8.6.10 If any out-of-tolerance conditions ext:t, make the necessary adjustments and/or repairs and repeat 8.6.6 through 8.6.9.

8.7 Balances other than Chemet Lab balances snall be calibrated in accordance with 8.6 except the reading will ta repeatad only two times for each weight.

8.8 The red loading scales shall be calibra;cd as follows:

8.8.1 All weights used for calibration shall have a valid certifi-cation and shall be Class F or better.

8.8.2 All data shall be recorded on the form shown in Figure 1.

8.8.3 Fill out the scale id2ntification and status information.

8.8.4 Inspect the "V"

tray to make sure that it is clean and free of any foreign material.

8.8.5 Center the "V" tray and operate the "V* tray lif t mechanism to insure the tray is positioned properly in both the up and oown positions.

8.8.6 Using the zero adjustment control on the electronics unit, zero the digital readoet and record.

8.S.7 Place a 1000 gren weignt in the "V" tray.

Record the weight, serial number and the scale reading.

8.8.3 Repeat 8.8.7 using weignts ecual to about 50%, 75% and 100%

of the scale capacity.

8.8.9 Ctepare the stale readings with the corresponding weights to determine if the scale meets the specified tolerance.

8.S.10 If the scale does not meet the specified tolerance, make the necessary adjustments and/or repairs and record the kerk performed en the back of the form.

After completion of the adjust.ents or repairs, repeat 8.6.6 through 8.8.9.

8.9 The Bridgemaster motor truck scale shall be calibratcd as follows:

8.9.1 All weights used for calibration shall have a valid certif t-cation cnd shall be Class F or better.

6.9.2 All data shall be recorded en the form shown in Figure 1.

8.9.3 Fill out the scale identification and status information.

8.9.4 Zero the scale and record zero reading.

8.9.5 Place the loaded truck on the four segments of the scale platform, record the scale reading for each segment.

8.9.6 All four readings shall be within 0.1% of each other.

If this tolerance is not met, make the necessary adjustments and/or repairs and record the work performed on back of the fo rm.

After completion of the adjustment or repair, repeat 8.9.4 through 8.9.6.

8.9.7 With the truck off the platform, place weights equal to 3,000 pounds on the platform.

Record the scale reading.

8.9.8 Repea

8.9.7 for weights equal to 6,000, 9,000 and 12,000 pounds.

8.9.9 Compare the scale readings recorded in 8.9.7 and 8.9.8 with the corresponding certified weights to determine if the scale meets the specified tolerance.
