Dear Dr. Gasper:

SUBJECT:
STATUS OF NRC REVIEW OF CE OWNERS GROUP REPORTS In response to your letter of March 30. I am forwarding to you the current status of the NRC review of CE Owners Group reports. My staff understands the current status as follows: of the ten issues discussed at our meeting in January, only four reports (Emergency Procedure Guidelines, RPS/ESFAS Test Interval Extension, RCS Coolant System Leak-Before-Break Justification, and Small Break LOCA Margin Improvement New Evaluation Model Development) have actually been received by the NRC reviewers.
Four other issues are having their reports prepared by CEOG, and as indicated in your letter, the Restructured Technical Specifications issue is being handled through NUMARC.
We understand that CEOG will not issue a topical report on the remaining issue (Charging Pump Performance Improvement Program), but will instead provide a sumary
]
presentation to the NPC upon request.
[
One of the reports the NRC has received, Small Break LOCA Margin Improvement New Evaluation Model Development, was issued by Combustion Engineering in late April.
Although the origin of this report is different (CE versus CEOG), the NRC recomendation that topical reports be submitted on specific dockets in order to irprove their review priority still stands.
i Enclosed is the current status update on all ten issues.
If you have any l
questions on the information enclosed or need additional information, please Contact me.
