McGuire 2 DATE:
09/15/88 NARRATIVE
SUMMARY
Month: August, 1988 McGuire Unit 2 began the month of August in a Forced Outage caused by a failed closed Feedwater Regulating Valve.
The unit returned to service at 1027 on 8/01, and reached 100% power on 8/02, following a hold for Secondary Chemistry at 30%. On 8/04 at 0910, the unit reduced power to 95% to repair a Heater Drain Pump seal. At 0132 on 8/06, while still at 95% power, the unit was removed from service due to high vibrations on an exciter bearing. The unit returned to service at 2033 on 8/06, and was subsequently removed from service at 2143 the same day, due to continued high vibrations. The unit then returned to service at 0212 on 8/07, and was again removed from service due to high bearing vibrations. The unit returned to service at 0628 on 8/07, and held power at 54%
for Feedwater pump problems and reached 95% at 2258 on 8/07, where power was I
limited by Heater Drain Tank problems. The unit returned to 100% power on 8/10.
On 8/15, the unit experienced a Turbine runback to 88% power when the Supervisory was removed f rom service for maintenance. The unit returned to 100%
power at 1845 on 8/15, where it operated for the remainder of the month.
