NIAGARA M0 HAWK POWER CORPORATION NINE MILE POINT - UNIT 2 DOCKET NO. 50-410 Final Report for a Problem Concerning Clearance Violations With Platform Framing Steel and Primary Containment (55(e)-85-30)
Description of the Problem Three clearance violations between structural steel framing of secondary containment and primary containment wall were identified by Nonconformance and Disposition Report No. 14015. The design specifies a 3-in. clearance between the wall and steel members to allow displacement due to seismic and/or thermal loadings.
Analysis of Safety Implications Detailed analysis of the consequences of the as built clearances less than the specified 3" was not performed. Therefore, the possibility exists that the defects, had they gone uncorrected, could have adversely affected the safety of operation of the plant.
Corrective Action Nonconformance and Disposition Report 14015 has been dispositioned specifying repairs to maintain the required clearances on identified cases.
