ENCLOSURE NOTICE OF VIOLATION Carolina Power and Light Company Docket Nos. 50-325 and 50 *i24 Brunswick 1 and 2 License Nos. DPR-71 and DPR-62 l  !

During the Nuclear Regulatory Comnission (NRC) inspection conducted on July 7 -

4 August 7,1988, a violation of HRC requirements was identified. In accor- ,

4 dance with the "General Statement of Policy and Procedure for NRC Enforcement '

Actions," 10 CFR Part 2 Appendix C (1983), the violation is listed below:

10 CFR 50 Appendix B, Criterion V, requires that activities affecting l quality shall be prescribed by documented instructions or procedures of I a type approp.iate to the circumstances, i Contrary to the above, instructions of a type appropriate to the circumstances were not used in that, on and before July 22, 1988, wood support structures were installed under the four diesel generator  :

silencers using a plant services authorization. Consequently, no shift l foreman review was obtained prior to the installation, and a fire on the diesel generator building roof resulted.

This is a Severity Level IV violation (Supplement I). [

which will be taken to avoid further violations, and (5) the date when full l compliance will be achieved. Where good cause is shown, consideration will be given to extending the response time.
