The device consists of aJdepleted' uranium shield and a polyurethane filler enclosed in a 1/8" (3.18 mm) steel case, consisting of.a right circular cylinder and two casts 1/4" (6.35 mm) end pieces. -The assembly is secured by heliarc welding.

At one end is a lock box through which'the ocurce pigtail 'able and. male half of the quick disconnect-connect connector pr,.trude.
The lock box is the improved version that is used in the Gamma
' Century A unit.
The lock box is located at the bottom of the device.
At the top of the device, the source conduit is attached to a fitting-at the opposite end of the "S"
tube by a spring I
-loaded quick disconnect-connect connector arrangement after removing a protective screw cap.
The source tube may be of the transparent PVC'or-the more common opaque neoprene coated steel g
. type.
The' depleted uranium shield (approximately 37 pounds [17 kg]) is secured in pot **'c" by the two cast steel end pieces and is cushioned on'ite -; mmference within the device by polyurathane.

A teleflex drive cable arrangement with a hand crank is provided'for_ moving the source between the exposed and chielded

The Model Century SA is device is no longer manufactured or distributed by' Gamma Industries, Inc. and Gamma Industries, Inc.

Therefore, the registration certificate is being converted to an inactive registration certificate.
'The device was originally approved for licensing purposes by the Louisiana Division of Radiation Control.
NRC attempted to obtain
