Box 1475 Baltimore, Maryland 21203 Gentlemen: Subject: NRC:RI Inspection 50-317/85-34; 50-318/85-34 This transmits the December 11, 1985 - January 20, 1986 resident inspection find- ings by Messrs. T. Foley and D. Trimble at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Lusby, Maryland. Those findings were based on observation of activities, inter- views and document reviews which have been discussed with Mr. Lemmons of your staff. Weaknesses were noted in the areas of: (1) preparations for and conduct of main- tenance on an energized electrical bus (a loss of the particular bus involved'was found by the Interim Reliability Evaluation Progr_am to be a possible initiator of a dominant accident sequence) (see Section 8 for details) and (2) apparent infor- mality in the documentation follow through for a temporary change to a procedure ~ (Section 9).
