FACILITY: Carolina Power and Light Company Brunswick, Unit No. 2 Docket No. 50-324 Southport, North Carolina

SUBJECT:

CRACKS IN CORE SPRAY PIPING During loop A, inservice a crack inultrasonic the heat affected testing ofzone the core sprayinpiping of a weld on a 90 elbow was identified. The exterior length of the crack is 1/8". Following identification of this crack, two others were found visually by water

, weepage. The three cracks are in three separate 90 degree elbows in the heat-affected zone of the weld on the primary side of the first isolation valve.

( The licensee evaluation is still in progress.

repair will extend ~the 54-day refueling outage which began 9/10/77.
