II.. Monthly Report for Byron Unit 2 for the month of July 1988 A. Summary of Operatina Experience for Unit 2 The unit began this reporting period in Mode 1 at 94% power. On 7/3/88 a load reduction to approximately 50% was initiated per the load dispatcher. By 1205 on 7/5/88 power was returned to 95%. The unit operated at power levels of up to 95% until 0114 on 7/14/88 when a reactor trip, due to low steam generator level (2C feedwater pump trip) occurred.

The reactor was taken critical at 0349 on 7/15/88.

The reactor tripped at 0436 on 7/15/88 due to low steam generator level (valves 2rWO39B and 2rWO39C f ailed to open). The valves were repaired.

The reactor was taken critical at 1440 on 7/15/88. The unit was synchronized to the grid at 2042 the same day. The unit operated at power levels of up to 95% until 7/30/88 when a load decrease to approximately 50%, for condenser waterbox cleaning, was achieved. The waterbox cleaning was completed at 1000 on 7/31/88.

The unit operated at power levels of up to 75% for the rest of the reporting period.
