Dear Mr. Matthews:
On March 10.1997. Caldon, Inc. submitted Topical Report No. ER-80P for NRC review and approval. Entergy Operations Inc. supports the technical concept of this i
topical report and requests the staff consider a timely review of this report in order to make this option avaliable to the utilltles.
Entergy presently has extemal LEFM4" systems installed at Grand Gulf Nuclear Station and River Bend Station, with prevlous test history at Waterford 3 and ANO.
Results at the sites have been repeatable and representative of the conditions expected. I hope the staff shares our opinion that the chordal LEFMV system is a positive, forward move for the dated ventud flow measurement system.
Entergy believes the chordal LEFMVS accuracy improvement of thermal power monitoring will have positive benefits in both safety margin and potential power uprate. Once approved by the NRC, we plan to investigate the benefits of l
incorporating the topical report into the licensing bases of our nuclear units.
