, Enclosed is a copy of the FEMA report titled "Trajan Nuclear Plant Site-Specific Offsite Radiological Emergency Preparedness Alert and Notification System Quality Assurance Verificaciaa." The transmitting October 25, 1985 letter from FEMA to the NRC (ccpy also enclosed) states that
" FEMA has determined that the alert and notifica tion system.. . satisfies the requirements of NUREG-0654/ FEMA-REP-1, Rev. I atd FEMA-43." It is our conclusion that, based on this report, there is a means for notifying and providing prompt instructions to the public witlin the plume exposure pathway Emergency Planning Zone around the Trojan Nuclet r Plant.
We note that the October 25, 1985 FEMA letter also includes a recommendation to consider increasing the frequency at which the silent tests of the sirens are performed from once every three months to minthly. We urge you to seriously weigh this recommendation, which woulI provide added assurance of the continued reediness of the alert and notifi:ation system.
