Subject: Combined Inspection Report Nos. 50-334/88-09; 50-412/88-05
A routine safety inspection of your solid radwaste preparation, packaging and
shipping program was conducted by Mr. B. S. Davidson of this office on February
22-26, 1988. We also reviewed portions of your respiratory protection program.
Our findings were discussed with youreelf and others of your staff at the con-
clusion of the inspection of February 26, 1988.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I
Inspection Report which is enclosed with this letter. Within these areas, the
inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures and representative
records, interviews with personnel and observations by the inspector.
The inspection indicated that your program failed to account for four packages
containing radioactive materials in one of your radwaste shipments resulting
in an apparent violation of NRC requirements. Details are provided in enclosed
Appendix A. You are required to respond to these findings by following the
instructions included in Appendix A.
