Gentlemen:
This transmits the May 26, 1988 to June 29, 1988, routine inspection findings
.of Mr. C. Holden and Mr. R. Freudenberger ar. the Maine Yankee Atomic Power
Plant, Wiscasset, Maine. Those findings were based on observations of activ-
~ities, interviews, and document reviews, and have been discussed with
Dr. Boulette of your staff.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed. However, a
cancern was identified in that NRC involvement was required to initiate plans
to decontaminate an area'near the Refueling Water Storage Tank Siphon Heater.
The contamination had been identified as a problem by your staff, yet correc-
tive action to decontaminate the area was not accomplished until the inspector
questioned the contamination levels.
No reply to this letter is required. Your continued cooperation with us in
this matter is appreciated. -
